Specna Arms SA-S03 CORE sniper rifle

The Specna Arms SA-S03 CORE is a spring-action sniper rifle modeled after the M40A5 rifle used by the US Marine Corps. It offers a sturdy build, functional details, and reliable performance right out of the box. The model is well suited as both a first bolt-action sniper rifle and a tuning platform for players who want to build their own sniper rifle to their own preferences.

The rifle's stock is made of durable matte polymer that feels stiff and stable in the hand. The slide, outer barrel, trigger mechanism and Picatinny rails are made of metal. The stock has QD sling loop slots on both sides, front and rear. There is also a traditional sling loop slot under the front of the stock. Picatinny rails running above the barrel and stock allow for the attachment of optics and accessories like on a real M40A5 rifle.

The butt cheekpiece is easily adjustable without tools, making it easy to adjust the sight line to suit the optics. The slide pull feels smooth and firm, and the safety is located in the traditional location next to the slide, from where it is easy and quick to operate with your thumb. The hop-up slide adjustment lever is located on the side of the frame and offers a quick way to fine-tune the bullet's trajectory. Internally, the SA-S03 CORE is compatible with VSR-10 parts, except for the hop-up chamber, cylinder head and magazine, which makes tuning possibilities extensive.

About the real M40 sniper rifle

The M40 sniper rifle is the classic sniper rifle of the United States Marine Corps (USMC), based on the Remington 700 series rifles. The M40A3 and M40A5 models have been used extensively in 21st century operations, and have been featured prominently in both live-action and feature films and television series such as Shooter and American Sniper.

The M40 series' strengths are accuracy, versatility, and quality construction, and its shortcomings are mainly related to the range of the 7.62×51 NATO cartridge. Yet the USMC has stuck with the model for decades, relying on the training level of its snipers and the traditional “Marines make do” attitude.
