AEG Hop-Up Buckings & Nubs
In this category you will find hop-up buckings (hop-up rubbers) and hop-up nubs designed for electric airsoft guns (AEG).
What is a hop-up bucking?
The hop-up bucking, often referred to as a hop-up rubber, is a critical component of an airsoft gun’s hop-up system. It is responsible for improving the BB’s flight path and effective range.
The hop-up system applies backspin to the BB just before it enters the inner barrel. This backspin stabilizes the BB’s flight and allows it to travel further with better accuracy.
The hop-up bucking itself is a small component typically made from rubber or silicone. It creates an air seal between the inner barrel and the BB while also providing the contact point that applies spin. As the BB passes through the chamber, it contacts the internal mound or patch of the bucking, which presses against the BB and generates the backspin effect.
An adjustable hop-up system allows the pressure applied by the bucking to be tuned for different BB weights, shooting distances, and gameplay conditions, helping optimize the performance of the airsoft gun.
The condition, hardness, and quality of the hop-up bucking play a major role in the performance of the replica. A worn or damaged bucking can reduce accuracy and range, and in some cases may cause feeding issues or BB jams.
It is also important to use the correct hop-up nub, which sits above the bucking and applies the pressure that creates the backspin effect. The shape and material of the nub can influence how evenly the pressure is applied and how consistently the gun performs.
Hop-Up Bucking Hardness Ratings
The hardness of a hop-up bucking is an important factor when selecting the right option for your airsoft gun. Hardness affects how much pressure the rubber applies to the BB and how it performs at different power levels.
Soft buckings (approximately 50°–60°)
Softer hop-up buckings are generally recommended for lower-powered guns or colder environments, where the material needs to remain flexible. They provide better grip on the BB at lower velocities and can improve consistency in low-power setups.
Medium buckings (approximately 60°–70°)
These are considered general-purpose hop-up buckings and work well across a wide range of airsoft replicas and conditions. They offer a good balance between flexibility and durability.
Hard buckings (approximately 70°–80°)
Harder hop-up buckings are typically recommended for higher-powered airsoft guns or warmer conditions. The stiffer material handles higher velocities and pressure better but may require more energy from the BB to function optimally.
Recommended Power Ranges for Different Hardness Ratings:
| Hardness: | Velocity (m/s)(: | Power (J): |
| 50° | below 110 m/s | < 1,2 J |
| 60° | approx. 90-120 m/s | 0,8-1,5 J |
| 70° | approx. 110-140 m/s | 1,2-2 J |
| 75° | approx. 130-150 m/s | 1,7-2,25 J |
| 80° | above 150 m/s | > 2,25 J |
Note:
The hardness ranges above are general guidelines. The ideal hop-up bucking depends on several factors such as the airsoft gun configuration, BB weight, and personal preference. Testing different buckings is often the best way to find the setup that works best for your airsoft gun and play style.
