Airsoft Gas Bottles
Airsoft gas bottles contain liquefied propellant gas used to power gas-operated airsoft guns, such as GBB pistols, rifles and gas shotguns. The gas is typically filled into the magazine through the fill valve located at the bottom of the magazine, where it is stored and used to cycle the gun.
Most airsoft gases are based on green gas or similar propane-based propellants, and many of them include silicone oil to help lubricate magazine seals and internal moving parts during use. Silicone-free gases are also available, which may be preferred by players who lubricate their equipment separately.
Airsoft gas bottles are available in different pressure levels, commonly indicated by a PSI rating (pounds per square inch). The PSI value describes the pressure of the gas at a specific temperature and directly affects the gun’s performance, including muzzle velocity, recoil and cycling reliability.
Temperature has a significant effect on gas pressure. Most manufacturers list PSI values at room temperature (around +20 °C / 68 °F). In colder conditions the pressure decreases, which can reduce performance, while higher temperatures can increase pressure and put more stress on the gun.
For this reason, choosing the right gas depends on both the type of airsoft gun and the ambient temperature. Lower-pressure gases are often recommended for pistols and guns with polymer components, while higher-pressure gases may perform better in colder conditions or with platforms designed for stronger gas.
