Iron Sights & Fiber Optic Sights
Iron sights, often also referred to as open sights, are a traditional sighting system consisting of a front sight and a rear sight. Aiming is done by aligning the front sight within the rear sight notch or aperture and placing this alignment on the target. Unlike optical sights, iron sights do not use magnification or illuminated aiming points, relying instead entirely on the user’s vision and available ambient light.
In airsoft, iron sights offer a simple, lightweight, and reliable aiming solution. They are commonly used as backup sights alongside optical sights, but many players also use them as their primary aiming system, especially in lightweight or more realistic airsoft setups.
Fiber optic sights are an enhanced version of iron sights where the aiming point is created by a small light-collecting fiber. The fiber gathers ambient light and produces a bright colored dot, making the sight easier to see and faster to acquire compared to traditional metal sights.
Iron and fiber optic sights are widely used on pistols, rifles, and shotguns. On airsoft guns they are particularly useful when a lightweight, durable sighting system is preferred without the need for batteries or optical devices.
