The Helikon-Tex Boonie Mk2 Hat - Field (NIR/IRR) is a lightweight military hat with an NIR/IRR feature for concealment under night vision. It comes in PL Woodland camouflage.
The Boonie Mk2 Hat is a new version of the proven military boonie hat. The classic shape has been kept, but the construction has been refined to meet modern field needs better. In the Mk2 model the number of fabric layers has been reduced, which makes the hat lighter and less burdensome on the head, especially on hot days.
The hat is made of PolyCotton Stretch Ripstop IRR fabric (50% polyester, 48% cotton, 2% elastane, 220 g/m²). The combination of polyester and cotton provides breathability, quick drying and resistance to wear, and the elastane gives two-way stretch during movement. The ripstop weave stops any damage from spreading.
All elements of the hat are produced in the same colours and camouflage patterns as Helikon-Tex tactical clothing, so it fits the whole setup and does not stand out in the field. The webbing around the hat is designed so that it does not appear as a single-colour line against a camouflage background.
The hat has ventilation eyelets with mesh, quick-drying fabric, a contrasting interior (it can be used to mark a position or identify the user in an emergency), an attachment loop for the Raid Combat Shirt and a hook-and-loop panel on top for IR markers. The loops around the hat let you tuck in grass, branches or leaves for better camouflage and also hold small accessories such as a clip-on flashlight.
Field products in PL Woodland provide NIR (Near Infrared) functionality, also referred to as IRR (Infrared Reflective). According to the manufacturer, the materials help reduce the contrast of the wearer's silhouette when viewed through devices operating in the near-infrared spectrum. All visible fabrics and components are selected to absorb, reflect and transmit radiation in a way that closely resembles the natural environment, in this case woodland terrain. The materials are tested in the laboratory and in the field using a spectrophotometer and analog night-vision devices.
