Helikon-Tex Supertarp - Lightweight Tarp 3x3 m

The Helikon-Tex Supertarp is a lightweight and versatile tarp designed to provide shelter from rain, sun, and wind in a wide range of outdoor environments. It is well suited for bushcraft, hiking, camping, trekking, and any situation where a quickly deployable shelter is needed.

One of Supertarp’s greatest strengths is its versatility. Nineteen reinforced attachment points allow it to be configured in multiple ways depending on terrain, weather conditions, and intended use. It can be set up as a classic A-frame shelter, a lean-to, a hammock cover, a workstation canopy, or an improvised emergency shelter.

With dimensions of nearly 3 × 3 meters, the tarp provides ample coverage for a single user with equipment or can be used as a shared shelter for several people. Its generous size also makes it suitable as a communal camp shelter or weather protection for rest stops and field camps.

The tarp is made from lightweight 72 g/m² Polyester Ripstop fabric, combining durability with a compact packed size. The waterproof coating provides reliable protection against rain, while the fabric also creates shade and helps reduce heat buildup in direct sunlight. The Ripstop weave helps prevent small tears from spreading, increasing durability during extended outdoor use.

Despite its large coverage area, the Supertarp weighs only 850 grams and packs into the included transport bag. Once packed, it takes up very little space in a backpack, making it easy to carry on everything from day hikes to extended wilderness trips.

Field Test in the Finnish Spring Forest

In an independent field test, the Helikon-Tex Supertarp in PenCott WildWood camouflage was evaluated in a Finnish spring forest environment. The article examines the tarp’s camouflage performance in real woodland conditions and also includes observations on its visibility under thermal imaging. The test features field photographs, thermal images, and practical user impressions gathered during use.
