The Helikon-Tex Swagman Scarf is a lightweight, compact, multi-purpose piece of gear that packs down into a compact package, offering flexibility and added protection in a variety of conditions. Its concept is based on the “survival scarf” idea developed by Canadian survival expert Mors Kochanski, where one piece of gear can be used for multiple purposes. The Swagman Scarf works equally well as part of a bug-out backpack, in the car, as a hiking accessory, or as part of your daily outdoor gear – it takes up little space but provides great added protection.
The Swagman Scarf is versatile. It acts as an extra layer of protection against the wind, and when folded into a neck scarf, it improves insulation around the chest and helps maintain body heat while on the move. When spread out, it becomes a hooded poncho, and when the sides are fastened, it becomes a lightweight jacket. At camp, it works as an improvised tarp or ultralight sleeping bag, and when tightly tightened, it transforms into a gear bag. In an emergency, the Swagman Scarf can replace an emergency blanket – it is a much more durable and versatile option.
The lightweight, compressible nylon material quickly recovers its shape and moves with the body. The construction works well with other layering pieces, such as jackets and harnesses. The Swagman Scarf is Helikon's own tribute to Kochanski's idea - a versatile, carefully designed and field-tested piece of equipment you can rely on.
