Jetboil Flash Java 1.0L

The Jetboil Flash Java 1.0L is a fast and easy-to-use all-in-one travel kettle that comes with a Coffee Press, meaning you basically get both a kettle and a functional “travel coffee maker” in the same package. This is a good choice when you want really fresh coffee on a trip without any separate settings, but at the same time you also get the normal benefits of a travel kettle: bagged meals, hot drinks and quick boiling of water are possible with the same set. All parts pack inside the kettle, and up to a 100 g gas cartridge can fit in addition to other parts, so the Flash Java fits neatly in your backpack and takes up little space.

Operation is straightforward: attach the burner to the cup, screw the gas into place and turn the switch to ignite the piezo. The flame intensity is adjusted using the same control, so you can also get a slightly more moderate power if necessary. The burner section has rubber-coated edges that make handling easier and increase safety when the kettle is hot or your hands are cold. The patented, wind-protected FluxRing base transfers heat efficiently and evenly to the cooking pot, and with a power of 5300 BTU (1.5 kW), 0.5 liters of water boils in about 120 seconds. The neoprene insulation sleeve makes the 1.0 liter cooking pot safer to handle and helps keep the drink warm, and the heat indicator stripes on the sleeve change color when the water is boiling. Measuring lines inside the pot make it easier to dispense, and the bottom cover also functions as a measuring cup or bowl.

The idea behind the Flash Java package is that the presso press is always with you and is stored neatly inside the coffee maker. When the water is boiling, you add the coffee, press down the presso and the job is done without the need for separate pans or filter adjustments. It uses standard threaded camping stove gas (cartridges from most common manufacturers), but for best performance, Jetboil recommends JetPower gas. A 100g JetPower cartridge can boil up to about 10 liters of water, which is a really practical amount for a light trip.
