QuikClot Combat Gauze Hemostatic Dressing

QuikClot Combat gauze is a 7.5 cm wide, 3.7 m long, z-folded, soft, white, kaolin-impregnated gauze.

Combat gauze has a strip that is visible on X-rays.

The product is vacuum-packed in an easy-to-open bag and has a shelf life of five years.

QuikClot hemostatic dressings are impregnated with kaolin, an inorganic mineral that accelerates the blood clotting process. QuikClot dressings therefore stop bleeding significantly faster and are more effective than surgical dressings. Several tests have also shown their effectiveness compared to other hemostatic products.

QuikClot hemostat does not contain animal protein, human protein, shellfish or vegetable ingredients, so it is allergy-free. Kaolin also does not cause thermal reactions, so all QuikClot products are safe to use.

Extensive testing by the United States Army Institute for Surgical Research (USAISR) and the Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC) led the Committee of Tactical Combat Casualty Care (CoTCCC) to recommend QuikClot Combat Gauze as the primary hemostatic dressing for life-threatening bleeding when a tourniquet cannot be used or in combination with a tourniquet when evacuation time is expected to be greater than 2 hours.
