The gun is modeled after the Moschetto Automatico Beretta Modello 1938 submachine gun originally manufactured by the Italian Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta SpA between 1938 and 1950. The gun has been in service not only in Italy but also in Argentina, Romania and Germany.
